On this week's episode of Salute the Sample, ROCK THE BELLS' exclusive series where LL COOL J, Greg Nice, and DJ Z-Trip breakdown the origin of some of Hip-Hop’s most beloved samples, the trio dissect The Fat Back Band's 1970s gem, "Gotta Learn How to Dance."

"The funk is incredible," Greg Nice declares as the track plays.

One of the funkiest groups around, The Fat Back Band was the first group to feature a rapper on a song. Fast forward, the track was sampled on Kool G Rap & DJ Polo's classic "Streets of New York" in 1990.

"They were the first group to have a rapper on a song with the King Tim III joint," LL says, referencing the song, “King Tim III (Personality Jock),” which predated The Sugar Hill Gang's "Rapper's Delight." "Not the first rap song, but the first to have a rapper on a song," LL clarifies and Z-Trip and Greg Nice continue to dance along to the funky track.

Check out the full episode below. Salute The Sample airs every Thursday on RockTheBellsTV at 6 pm EST.
