Mustafa Hassan, 84, an associate of Malcolm X, points to himself in a picture following the assassination of Malcolm X during a news conference with Civil rights attorney Ben Crump and and Malcolm X's daughter IIyasah Shabazz on July 25, 2023 in New York City. They allege more information has been discovered which they say points to efforts by the FBI to cover up a conspiracy to murder Malcolm X. Crump and his team said they were unveiling the information, including a new witness speaking for the first time, to show negligence or a possible cover up in the investigation of the famed civil rights leader. Mr. Hassan was at the scene of the assassination but was never interviewed by police. He allegedly heard police ask if a suspected gunman was "with us" after police witnessed Malcolm X's supporters beating him. Hassan said he saw another gunman, which he has stated in an affidavit.

New Evidence In Malcolm X Murder Case Further Implicates NYPD

New evidence presented at a press conference held by attorney Benjamin Crump on Tuesday (7/25) further implicates the NYPD in the 58 year -ld murder of Malcolm X.

Mustafa Hassan, 84, claimed to be "right there beside Malcolm in the last moments of his life according to NewsOne. According to Hassan, he has proof the law enforcement knew of a planned attempt on the life of Malcolm X at the Audubon ballroom on February 21, 1965.

Crump and Hassan were joined by co-counsel Ray Halin and Malcolm's daughters at the Malcolm X & Betty Shabazz Memorial Educational Center, formerly known as the Audubon Ballroom. While the FBI and NYPD have long been suspected as participants in Malcolm's murder, Tuesday marks the first time that a witness has come forward with photographic evidence to support their claim.

Hassan, who was a member of the security team of Malcolm X's newly formed Organization of Afro American Unity (OAAU), was at the scene of the assassination, but was never interviewed by law enforcement. According to Hassan, members of the NYPD held members of the OAAU back as they pursued Talmage Hayer, an alleged gunman in the assassination.

"Suddenly a group of NYPD officers showed up and and held us back," he said. "They asked was Hayer 'with us'. From my vantage point this was an attempt by the police to assist him getting away," he continued.

Hassan pointed to photos as evidence of proof of his claim that he attempted to stop Hayer from escaping and that he was present at the ballroom on that day. This press conference comes months after Ben Crump announced in February plans to formally accuse the NYPD and other unnamed government agencies of conspiring to murder Malcolm X.
