On episode 3 of Grandmaster Flash's Vignette Series, he reflects on the media's reaction to Hip-Hop.

"I remember seeing in many magazines that Hip-Hop would be like a ship passing in the night," the iconic DJ said. "How wrong was that? Hip-Hop is now on NFL's Super Bowl."

Flash went on to reflect on the many accomplishments that rap music has made over the decades. "When I see some of my homeboys, and the first female rapper [Sha Rock] , the Funky 4 on Saturday Night Live, Kurtis Blow on Soul Train, the movie industry and Wild Style, Breakin, Beat Street and Yo! MTV Raps. Another one was Run-DMC on the cover of Rolling Stone."

Flash also recalled the successful careers of rap music executives like Russell Simmons and Sylvia Rhone as well as the legendary Fresh Festival tours of the mid '80s as proof that the media got it wrong.

Flash reunited with his group The Furious Five last week at the 65th annual Grammy awards where the group participated in a star-studded tribute to 50 years of Hip-Hop which included Run-DMC, LL COOL J, Salt N Pepa, Scarface, Queen Latifah and a host of other legendary rap acts.

Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5 hit the scene in 1979 and scored a number of hits with songs like "Superrappin'," "Freedom," "It's Nasty," "The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on The Wheels of Steel" and "The Message." The most decorated of the first-generation rap groups, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5 are Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipients, Grammy Songwriting Hall of Famers, and "The Message" is archived in the Library of Congress with the works of Edison and other things of cultural significance.
