Dave Mays' Breakbeat Media has announced a new podcast series, The 5 Mic Podcast. According to IG, the podcast "Will tell the most iconic stories in Hip-Hop culture with the authenticity, accuracy, and attention to detail that only Breakbeat can deliver."

Season 1 of the podcast will chronicle the Source Magazine's Unsigned Hype column. Each month, the column would feature one artist selected from hundreds of demo tapes that artists worldwide would send to the magazine’s offices in New York City. The column launched the careers of some of Hip-Hop biggest names like The Notorious B.I.G, Common, Eminem, DMX, Capone-N-Noreaga, Pitbull, and others all got their start by being featured in Unsigned Hype before they had a record deal.

Breakbeat Media also launched Collect Calls With Suge Knight recently. Mays is aiding Suge in this venture, and he spoke with TMZ recently about the podcast. “As we celebrate Hip-Hop’s 50th year, more than ever the Hip-Hop community needs a media platform that they can trust to bring a truthful and authentic perspective on so many important things happening in our world," he said. "I’m proud that Breakbeat provides this essential and valuable medium."
