Gangsters don't die; they get chubby and move to Miami..."
- N.O.R.E.
Franklin decides to retire from the drug game. It’s been a long few days. Truthfully, it’s been a long few YEARS.
He finds out Teddy undercut him by selling directly to his largest customers, Louie and Jerome. That is the final straw. He’s out.
In his relatively courteous exit interview, Franklin reminds Teddy how exponentially beneficial their partnership has been to the CIA’s cause. He earned $56 million to help fund the contra war in Nicaragua. Unfortunately, although Franklin was also paid handsomely, he suffered considerably. He took a bullet, lost friends, sold out his father, and murdered multiple people.
Now his own family turned on him. That’s just a price he just isn’t willing to pay.
And Louie… Well, she is becoming quite the budding queen pin. She not only stole Franklin’s business right from under his nose but also adopted his expansion plan to sell out of state. Then there is Buckley. He finally followed through on her order to kill Kane after Leon negotiated a truce. So it’s safe to say there is a new Saint sitting on top of the crack dealer’s throne.

Her first order of business, post-marital bliss, is to manage the hired hitman. Buckley's attempt to kill Kane under the guise of a drug bust fails miserably. There aren’t any drugs found on the scene, Kane is severely wounded but survives, and Buckey’s partner is murdered. With an officer dead, the LAPD looks for someone to blame, and a Black cop is the perfect scapegoat. Buckley turns to drugs to soothe his mounting stress. Louie temporarily calms his ensuing spiral by offering him a job.
Leon still has dreams of escaping the life. He asks Wanda to go away with him again. This time he’s sober. After initially resisting, she softly falls into his arms. The love they share is still apparent.
Cissy continues her covert relationship with the KGB.
Even after the Louie and Jerome wedding flub, her handler was able to gain intel. He uses it to track down Avi and breaks into his headquarters. The loveable arms dealer catches him in the act. Sadly, after a quick fight, Avi is left unconscious. We are left to wonder if he makes it.
Many questions remain with only one episode left in season five. The most pertinent being: did Franklin quit for good, or did he just outsmart everyone – including us?
