In a gangster’s story, brutal violence often disrupts lavish celebrations. Here, the tradition continues, but the weapons aren’t guns, knives, or bombs but rather Franklin’s thoughts. Louie and Jerome’s wedding is a beautiful showcase of unconditional love. However, courtesy of Skully, the chocolate-covered strawberries are infused with LSD, and everyone’s high as fuck. 

While in an altered state, Franklin confronts his demons. His latest murder victim and childhood friend, Rob, comes back for revenge and ‘shoots’ him. Cissy realizes the party-goers, including herself, are under the influence and rushes to her son’s aid. Franklin wakes up believing he is dead, but his mother is there to soothe him. Unfortunately, the moment of solace doesn’t last long because Cissy accuses him of becoming someone who puts “white people above their father and money before god.” He curses her with ferocious anger. Filled with terror, she leaves him to acid trip alone.

Veronique appears. Even though her voice is soft, her words cut deep. She speaks Franklin’s greatest fears: he cannot be a gangster and family man or a killer and do honest business. She predicts in the end; he will destroy them all. To survive, they must betray him. Et tu Brutus?

Before he is destroyed, he must destroy. So he sits down with Teddy and calmly tells him, “I’m going to kill you.” Although the apparition of Teddy is a fantasy, Franklin does actually call him to deliver the message. Teddy’s response is to collect evidence against Franklin while he’s at the wedding.

The last person Franklin faces is Franklin. He can’t lie, manipulate or fool himself. A dressed-down, younger taunting Franklin, reminds him of all the bodies continuously piling up since he’s become a kingpin. This colder Franklin brushes off the idea he “helps his people” and gut punches him with “this whole thing is going to fall apart.” 

The high wears off, and Franklin attempts to make amends. He empathizes with Leon, checks on his mother, and finds the bride for a friendly dance. In one of their rare instances alone, he offers Louie partnership, but it is too late. She kisses her nephew softly. Meanwhile, Buckley is preparing to murder Kane, the hit Louie put in place.
