Academy Award-winning Roots drummer and producer Amir "Questlove" Thompson has championed the greatness of his friend/bandmate, Roots frontman/MC Black Thought, quite a bit in recent weeks. On Monday (May 2) Questlove proclaimed Thought “an emcee who cares about his craft” in a tweet that also spoke of The Roots' 30th anniversary as a band.

“Next month mark [sic] the 30th anniversary of the institution known as The Roots," Questlove said. "Imagine being better than you were 30 years ago. Wow”

Questlove also reminded us of Thought's greatness last month in response to GQ magazine's May 22 cover on Future that stated: "Future Is the Best Rapper Alive." Questlove tweeted the cover with no caption, and when one of his followers asked "Is that good or bad?," Quest replied by posting the link to Black Thoughts legendary 10 minute Funkmaster Flex freestyle from 2017.

In addition to their nightly gig as the house band for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Black Thought and Questlove are currently working with Mick Jagger on a four-part James Brown documentary for A&E, as well as the animated Disney series Rise Up, Sing Out.
