It's official, Girl's Trip 2 is happening and the entire cast is on board. The first film, Girl's Trip, was a huge success, made on just a $16 million budget and grossing over $140 million. The film starred Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Tiffany Haddish, and Regina Hall.
The film, directed by Malcolm D. Lee, produced by Will Packer and co-written by Tracey Oliver and Kenya Barris was launched from a story they conceived with Erica Rivinoja. While the first romp took place during Essence Fest, the upcoming film will be set in everyone's new favorite country to visit — Ghana, possibly at the popular Afrochella festival, Ghana’s premiere cultural and music event.
Latifah talked about her long friendship with Pinkett Smith (the two also starred in the classic Set Off) in an interview with People, when the first film debuted. “Jada and I can have whole conversations where we haven’t really said anything, but we’ve said a lot,” she said.
While there's no release date for Girl Trip 2 as of yet, you can catch Latifah weekly starring in the third season of the CBS crime drama, The Equalizer.
