Outkast Sue EDM Duo For Trademark Infringement Over The Name 'ATLiens'

The trademark holding company High Schoolers,LLC created by Outkast members Big Boi and Andre 3000 filed a trademark infringement lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia earlier this week. The suit was against another Atlanta based duo who calls themselves ATLiens, which is the title of Outkast's 1996 sophomore album.

According to FOX 5, the group claims that the Atlanta-based EDM group ATLiens has been using the name for years without proper consent. "The word ATLiens was invented by Outkast. Before Outkast created it, it was not used in the cultural lexicon and did not exist," according to the suit.

Outkast is asking that ATLiens stop using the name (which they trademarked in 2020), dissolve their trademark, and pay their attorneys' fees.
