"For years I'd seen the value of the book as an artifact with a lot of historic meaning and collectible value," Holman said in an IG post. He added, "The only way to make this happen was to scan the book, so we took this book apart page by page. The book has lots of information that speaks to the origins and major players, and what we were thinking at the time. It's not a book about that time, it was written at that time."
Michael Holman serves as one of Hip-Hop's earliest ambassadors. In addition to writing one of the first published articles about Hip-Hop (in the East Village Eye, 1982), he is the creator of Graffiti Rock, the classic, Soul Train-like Hip-Hop show that featured The New York City Breakers, Shannon, and a battle between Run-DMC and The Treacherous Three. He also helped produce and direct the iconic Hip-Hop film, Beat Street.
