On September 29, Kool Herc and his sister Cindy Campbell, will host a fireside chat at DC's Kennedy Center, From 1520 Sedgwick Avenue to the World- A Fireside Chat with DJ Kool Herc and Cindy Campbell. The siblings will reflect on Hip-Hop over the last 50 years, in addition to their hopes for the next 50. The chat will be moderated by Grammy-nominated producer, DJ, music executive and college lecturer 9th Wonder.
Kool Herc is credited as the father of Hip-Hop, and his 1973 party at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in The Bronx is credited with sparking the cultural movement known as Hip-Hop. According to his sister Cindy, she was raising money for back-to-school clothes, so she hosted the historic party where her brother, Herc, served as DJ. Cindy is considered Hip-Hop's first lady and the self-proclaimed first Hip-Hop promoter.
