Cypress Hill and Onyx faced off in Sunday’s (May 15) Verzuz at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles as part of Triller’s Fight Club; which featured fighters Sergey Kovalev, Vargas Dynasty and Evan Holyfield. After the coin toss, Cypress Hill went first with “When The Shit Goes Down,” for an energetic and receptive audience. Backed with a live drummer, Cypress ripped through classics like "Cock The Hammer," while Onyx hit back with “Throw Ya Gunz” and “Shifty." “
A To The K”, “Dr. Green Thumb”,” Hand On The Pump” and “Kill A Man” were performed to great effect and the live instrumentation definitely gave those classics even more boom. “Insane In The Brain” brought the house down, as expected.
“Judgement Night”, “Last Days” and “Shut ‘Em Down’ were strong performers for Onyx, who laid claim to being the originators of meshing “slam dancing” with Hip-Hop, before they brought the place down with “Slam.” B-Real cleverly threw in a rebuttal that the Beastie Boys were likely the originators of the slam/Hip-Hop combination.
