Verzuz and Triller announced on March 23rd a face-off between Onyx and Cypress Hill that is scheduled to take place on May 14. The announcement also included an Easter, Gospel themed show between BeBe and CeCe Winans and Mary Mary in addition to Mothers Day, Juneteenth and Label Matchup shows. To drum up anticipation for the shows, the names of the upcoming shows are blurred on the social media posts.

Earlier this month it was announced that Swizz Beatz and Timbaland are producing a documentary about the rise of Verzuz with the help of Emmy winning actor Lena Waithe. In a 2020 Variety interview Swizz explained how Verzuz came to be: “Tim and I have always been competitive in different ways. Actually, we didn’t get along for a long time, no real reason, we just didn’t. Swizz says that he invited Tim to his home in 2007 and they became friends. In 2008 Swizz went against Kanye West in a beat battle at the annual summer jam concert and he squared off against Just blaze the next year. A 2018 match up between Swizz and Tim lead to an Instagram Live Beat Battle right before the Covid pandemic, which ultimately led to Verzuz
