In addition to an upcoming documentary, there is an ongoing campaign to get drummer Clyde Stubblefield inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Stubblefield was one of James Brown's drummers (along with John 'Jabo' Starks), who played an integral part in some of Brown's biggest recordings.

Stubblefield's performances on "Give It Up Or Turn It Loose", "Sex Machine", "Cold Sweat", and "Say It Loud (I'm Black and I'm Proud)" were not only major hits in Brown's vast catalog, they served as tools for Hip-Hop DJ's before and after rap recordings.

It would be Brown's 1970 song "Funky Drummer" that would provide a sound bed for Hip-Hop's sample heavy golden era. Sweet T, Public Enemy, Kool G. Rap, LL COOL J, Run-DMC, and scores of others would benefit from Stubblefield's iconic drumming on the single, which was largely obscure before Hip-Hop dusted it off.

In a new video, Kid Capri, Dennis Chambers, Anderson.Paak, Quest Love, Breakbeat Lou, Daru Jones, Alan Leeds, and Keith Shocklee make the case for Stubblefield's inclusion in the prestigious hall. "I'm reading the RRHOF and there's a musical excellence section," says Daru Jones.

The other participants in the video continue, "The award for musical excellence shall be given to artists, musicians, songwriters and producers, whose originality and influence creating music have had a dramatic impact on music." James Brown's former manager, Alan Leeds summarizes, "If those words don't describe Clyde Stubblefield, what does?"
