Scarface: "You Can Listen to My Song for Under a Penny!? That's Some Sh-t"

Scarface was a recent guest on Bill Bellamy's Top Billin' Podcast where he expressed his views on streaming services and how they impact the artists.

"You can listen to my song for under a penny? That's some shit!" the 5th Ward MC said. "I'm willing to bet that all record labels are tied into the streaming platforms in some capacity. You charge $12, $14, $10 a month and you have 20 million subscribers or more subscribing to this platform all paying that monthly fee. That's a lot of fuckin' money and it's way more than a platinum album!"

Face goes on to question why an artist would spend their own money to record and press up music and then essentially give it away. "One million streams earns you $4,500," Face pointed out.

"One thing that we don't do as artists is push the envelope," Face stated. "I'll walk away from that shit so fast. It's like buying a car or a house. If those numbers don't match up, I'm walking away because I don't need it that bad."

Voicing his frustration with the music industry and technology further, he said, "You don't have to be dope no more. All you need is a bunch of Instagram made-up-ass followers. Just click the button. It's about likes and followers now and that's part of the reason that I don't fuck with it no more."

In August, Face performed his classic album The Fix at the Rock The Bells Festival. Currently, he's on his farewell tour which wraps in November.
