While promoting Kings From Queens on Today, Rev Run shared the legacy of the group's DJ, the late Jam Master Jay.

"Jay was the nicest guy," Run recalled. "He was a family man, a loving man, a nice human being, and he was nice on those turntables."

Run continued to describe the legacy of Jay, born Jason Mizell, who would have turned 59 last week.

"As far as his legacy, people always say that they remember that he was the first out of the car to sign autographs. When we got to town to perform, he went into the town. He was very social and very loving, but on those turntables he was a beast."

Jay and his skillset as a DJ was the subject of a few of Run-DMC's biggest songs, including "Peter Piper," "Jam Master Jay," and "Jam Master Jammin.'"

Contemporaries have described him as one of the best live performance DJ's for his performances on legendary tours such as The Fresh Festival, and the Raising Hell tour.

Run-DMC's 3-part documentary debuts on Peacock on 2/1 and features Ice-T, LL COOL J, MC Lyte, Jermaine Dupri, Ice Cube, Questlove, Beastie Boys, Chuck D., Salt, Tom Morello, Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane, Ed Lover, and more.

“This documentary series will reach, teach, and educate people on the Run-DMC dynamic,” said DMC, who is also executive producer. “I know people will see themselves in our journey, and I am hopeful that the next 50 years of Hip-Hop will be a movement of positive improvement and creativity, in the same way we changed music and the world.”
