Roxanne Shante will make history on 2/1 when she becomes the first solo female MC to receive the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. The legendary MC and Rock The Bells Radio personality joins Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5, NWA, Salt N Pepa, Run-DMC, and Slick Rick as Hip-Hop artists who have received the prestigious honor.

Roxanne Shante took the world of Hip-Hop by storm with 1984's "Roxanne's Revenge", an answer to UTFO's gargantuan hit, "Roxanne,Roxanne". That answer was responsible for the infamous "Roxanne Wars", which garnered dozens of response records, and is recognized as Hip-Hop's first diss record.

Shante recently sat down with Gayle King of CBS Mornings and chronicled her rise to fame, which did not come with fortune. "I was never making money," she said of her exit from the music industry. "You cant miss what you don't have. There was no moving out of the mansion, no cars being repossessed, there was just an adjustment to regular life."

Shante has been bestowed with several honors in recent years. In addition to being honored as one of 2024's Top Women In Media with the Cynopsis Award, she has also been inducted into Washington D.C.'s National Hip-Hop Museum, as well as the Berklee College Hip-Hop Hall of Fame. Last year Shante joined Grandmaster Caz and Kool Moe as a recipient of the Hip Hop Grandmaster Award, which issues a financial stipend to Hip-Hop artists whose financial compensation failed to match their cultural impact.
