Redman on an Alternate Version of "Da Rockwilder": "It Was Dope, But It Didn't Resonate"

Brick City MC Redman was a guest on a recent episode of Fresh Pair with Just Blaze and Katty Customs where he was asked by Just Blaze about a longer version of 1999's "Da Rockwilder" featuring Redman and Method Man that he heard at Def Jam's offices before its release.

Redman responded that there is indeed a longer version, and he thanked Just Blaze for confirming something that had been in question for over two decades. "First off, I wanna thank you for clearing up 20 to 25 years of history and debating was there a longer version of Da Rockwilder," he said. "I told them that it was! But I'm a big fan of editing and it was dope, but it didn't resonate the way that it did if I hadn't cut it."

Just Blaze agrees that the edit was necessary and points out that the beauty of the song is it's the brief running time of two minutes and twenty-five seconds. "As a DJ when you're playing, you play the parts of the song that the people love, you get in and you get out. That's one of those records where no one gets cut out, and it ends on the right note."

After all parties agree that the longer version would be fun to listen to today, Red confirms that he doesn't own a copy, or know anyone who does.

Fresh Pair is a new series starring Hip-Hop legend Just Blaze and sneaker customizer Katty Customs. In the series, the co-hosts sit down with some of the biggest names in culture, to talk about their passions for sneaker culture, and streetwear style as well as their careers and personal journeys. New episodes of Fresh Pair air every Wednesday.
