When Kanan returns to the car, he faces another angry uncle: Marvin. He's upset that Kanan wanted to connect with any family outside of the one he already has. Marvin reveals Vernon was an underhanded criminal who would steal welfare checks from old ladies. He continues to lament: even though they may not be perfect or who Kanan wants them to be, his family is there for him. Anyone else, in his opinion, should be an afterthought. It's clear Marvin's really talking to his own daughter, but she's not speaking to him, so Kanan will do.
Uptown, Jukebox finally musters up the courage to actually approach her mother. Unlike Kanan's visit with his extended family, she's welcomed with open arms. Her mother, Kenya, is kind, endearing, and sincerely apologetic for abandoning her daughter. She wants to have a relationship with Jukebox. It's the best outcome possible.
Raq, Marvin, and Lou-Lou meet at the Baisley projects to decide how to handle their Jersey mobster issue. They make Kanan wait in the other room while they strategize. He finds a dozen boxes with a ton of cash in the closet. He swipes a stack, making this the second time he's stolen from the family business.
As usual, the adults have different perspectives. Marvin is concerned Jersey will always be a problem. Lou-Lou wants to back down primarily because he is disinterested in the drug business. But Raq is not intimated at all. She demands Marvin and Lou-Lou set up a face-to-face with Boselli and his crew.
