No Limit or Cash Money? Boosie Decides

Boosie Is Asked To Choose Between No Limit and Cash Money

No Limit Records and Cash Money Records put New Orleans on the Hip-Hop map, and in a recent interview Baton Rouge native Boosie Badazz* was asked about the two iconic record labels. During an interview with VladTV, Boosie was asked to choose between the No Limit tank and the house that Birdman and Slim built.

“That’s a good one,” Boosie said. “That’s a good one, I don’t know.”

Boosie broke down the respective histories of the labels, examining Master P's California connection when he launched No Limit.

“‘Cause he even had West Coast people on his CDs,” Boosie said. “You know, naming West Coast names and stuff like that; so I would say after a couple years that’s when we really ‘Louisiana’ him, like he was the king of Louisiana. Cash Money was like a Louisiana born since, you knew them was New Orleans niggas, period … that’s what represented Louisiana as far as gangsta music.”

But Boosie also acknowledged that Master P's vision made a huge impact on Louisiana.

“I would say at the time Master P when they went to all that movie shit, they took Louisiana to a whole other level.”

But Boosie also pointed out that Cash Money is still a major player. The label has been home to some of the biggest artists of the past decade, and continues to sign high profile stars.

“Cash Money still sells, like Cash Money they still doing their motherfucking thing,” Boosie said.

*editor's note: The article originally erroneously described Boosie Badazz as being from NOLA/New Orleans. It has been corrected to Baton Rouge.

Rapper Master P performs onstage during his No Limit Reunion Tour at 2020 Funkfest at Legion Field on November 07, 2020 in Birmingham, Alabama.
