We're tracking a big, breaking news story at RTB. Our unnamed source — who worked on the original Black Star album — tells us he has heard the new record, and it's produced entirely by Madlib.

"Yeah. It's done," our source tells us. "It's already done. I talked to Kweli a few days ago. It is done. It's just going through some business stuff. But it's already done and Madlib did the whole thing."

For those keeping track at home, we got our first taste at new Black Star music during Dave Chappelle's netflix show, The Closer, and subsequently in November when Madlib premiered new music at Day N Vegas.

Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star dropped in September 1998. The project peaked at number 13 on Billboard‘s United States R&B charts. The two haven’t collaborated on new material since 2011’s “You Already Know,” the duo’s tribute to the late Aretha Franklin, which was also produced by Madlib.

While there have been comments about the Black Star and Madlib collaborative project since at least 2019, this is the first time someone has heard it and confirmed its existence.

We reached out to Talib Kweli for comment, but have yet to hear back. Stay tuned for more news.
