MF DOOM's estate is demanding Now-Again Records founder Eothen “Egon” Alapatt return the late rapper's rhyme books.
Last year, DOOM's widow, Jasmine Dumile confirmed that Egon possessed some of DOOM's stolen rhyme books, and in a message posted to social media yesterday (March 1), the estate shared a screenshot of an old email chain in which the notebooks were previously requested. The emails appear to be between Egon, Jasmine, and possibly DOOM using the alias Karlo Metal-Franks. “Egon Give the Notebooks Back," the post was captioned.
Dumile previously expressed her disappointment in Egon's actions to HipHopDX. “We can confirm Eothen ‘Egon’ Alapatt is illegally in possession of rhyme books owned by MF DOOM,” Dumile said. “There have been many unsuccessful attempts to get these back prior to DOOM’s passing. We had hoped after DOOM transitioned Egon would do the right thing and return the books to the family but he has continued to ignore these requests. Unfortunately, Egon is not the only former associate abusing the likeness, art and life’s work of DOOM, more will be said at the appropriate time."
Talib Kweli also addressed the issue last summer, sharing a screenshot of an email he wrote to Egon. "One day the hip hop community is going to have to discuss what a lying, stealing, conniving culture vulture Eothen Apalatt AKA Egon of Now Again Records is... This is a non Black person who routinely takes advantage of Black artists and brags about it," he said.
