Method Man is set to star in the coming-of-age rap film, On the Come Up, based on the bestselling YA book by Angie Thomas (The Hate U Give).

On The Come Up is directed by Sanaa Lathan, who makes her directorial debut, and also co-stars in the film. The story follows headstrong 16-year-old rapper, Bri (Jamila C. Gray) as she struggles to prove herself on the mic, navigate daily poverty, and find out who she truly is in the process. Mike Epps, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Lil Yachty also star.

Method Man is staying busy on the acting front. Currently, he stars in Power Book II: Ghost and previously appeared in EPIX’s Godfather of Harlem.

On The Come Up hits theaters Sept. 23. Watch the official trailer above.
