Madlib Files Lawsuit Against Former Manager Egon

Producer Madlib has sued his former manager, Eothen “Egon” Alapatt. The date of the suit, (10/31) is significant, as it's the anniversary date of MF DOOM's untimely passing. According to documents obtained by Rock The Bells, Madlib claims that Egon was managing his affairs when he was with Stones Throw Records. Madlib left the label in 2010 and Egon was fired not long after. Madlib requested that Egon continue to manage his business affairs including bank accounts and monies flowing into and out of those accounts.

The lawsuit claims that Egon "was engaged in self-dealing, concealing information from, and repeatedly breaching his duties to Madlib and engaging in persistent and persuasive mismanagement."

Egon has also been accused of stealing Madlib collaborator MF DOOM's rhyme books. According to DOOM's widow, there have been many attempts to retrieve the book even before his passing in October 2020. "We had hoped after DOOM transitioned, Egon would do the right thing and return the books to the family but he has continued to ignore these requests," she said. "Egon is not the only former associate abusing the likeness, art, and life's work of DOOM."
