On this week's Salute the Sample, Rock the Bell's exclusive series where LL COOL J, Greg Nice, and DJ Z-Trip break down the origin of some of Hip-Hop’s most beloved samples, the trio reminisced on the Eazy-E 1988 rap classic "Eazy Duz It."
In what's one of the most in-depth episodes so far, this week the trio took a deep dive for a "sample train" as Z-Trip explained, highlighting the signature Eazy-E track (produced by DJ Yella and Dr. Dre) and pinpointing the various songs one of its vocal sample (from singer Michel'le) spawned — the Blue Brothers' produced "Sittin' On Chrome" by Masta Ace released in 1995 and Logic's 2014 track "Under Pressure." But the sample stretches even further — The Game and Kanye West 2022 track "Eazy" makes use of the same piece.
"And it's got the 'Paul Revere' sample on top of that," LL points out as The Game's beat rides.
The episode takes listeners further down the rabbit hole when Z-Trip plays that classic reverse "Paul Revere" sample, the normal way. "Once you hear it, you can't un-hear it," he says.
