Little Brother Announces Free Nationwide Screening Of New Doc 'May The Lord Watch'

Little Brother (Phonte and Rapper Big Pooh) will be hosting free screenings around the country of their much-anticipated documentary, May The Lord Watch: The Little Brother Story.

The documentary will detail the group's formation and rise, their breakup, and finally, reunion on their 2019 album of the same name, May The Lord Watch. The relationship between Phonte and Pooh will be the focus on the documentary, offering an inside glimpse to their friendship. Little Brother, which at the time consisted of Phonte, Pooh and producer 9th Wonder, shook up the scene with their critically-acclaimed debut album, The Listening. They followed it up with another acclaimed album, The Ministrel Show. Subsequent album, The Get Back and The Left Back were released without 9th Wonder. LB also released and acclaimed mixtape with DJ Drama as well as The Chitlin Circuit 1.5 mixtape.

The documentary will be "told through never before seen archival footage, contemporary vérité scenes, and interviews from the group's members, peers, and family, the film’s story unfolds in intimate detail under the framework of a 'UBN Made-for-TV Documentary', riffing on the fictional UBN Network created through comedy sketches on Little Brother albums," according to a press release.

May The Lord Watch will be directed by filmmaker Holland 'vacay' Gallagher and written by 'Yoh' Phillips (of Rap documentary studio 'Rap Portraits’), and will featured appearances from Drama, Questlove, and more.

“When you meet someone at the Uber line at LAX rarely does it coalesce into a years-long, soul-searching and feature-length-documentary-creating endeavor, but so it happened with Phonte and I in 2018," Gallagher said of the film. "Four years, two scrapped cuts, and a pandemic later, we're rounding the corner on completing the project that will tell the Little Brother story once and for all. I don't take that responsibility lightly and I hope our film reflects that.”

In addition to releasing their documentary, Little Brother recently dropped two new songs, "Wish Me Well" and "Glory, Glory." LB also recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of The Listening with Made In Durham: A Little Brother Block Party.
