Grammy Award winning artist and activist Killer Mike received a proclamation from Georgia State Representative Imani Barnes for his recent Grammy wins related to his album Michael. Mike swept the Rap category, winning Best Rap Song, Best Rap Album, and Best Rap Performance.

According to The Atlanta Voice, Mike reminisced about his grandparents, who he often references for instilling values in him at a young age. “My grandmother came in 1950,” he recalled. “My grandfather came here in 1940. My grandfather was from Georgia, my grandmother being from Alabama. I know I’m making them proud. And to be honest with you, I happen to know a lot about my family history.”

Mike shared his appreciation with an IG post. "Thank you Georgia state representative Imani Barnes for the proclamation and honors you presented me," he posted. "Everything I do, I do as a proud Georgian to have this validation from my home state is an immense honor. Having my kindergarten teacher, Ms. Pritchett, there made this moment extra sweet."
