Too $hort was honored in Oakland this past weekend (December 10) and one of his Mount Westmore compadres was on-hand to salute the Bay Area legend. Ice Cube and $hort Dog's friendship goes back decades, and Cube spoke about Too $hort's legacy as his friend was being celebrated at Oakland's Fremont High School gymnasium.

"He's been doing this since 1983. Put that in perspective: in 1983, on these streets, a lot of people was making choices. Some were choosing to sell dope, Too $hort decided to sell hope. He made a decision and it was the right decision. He decided to put his energy, his time and his creativity into something positive and something constructive. He built a whole industry by himself in a lot of ways, by being a spearhead and letting people know about Oakland, CA."
