Fresh off the Grammy's 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop tribute, it's been announced that another major celebration is on the way.
A two-hour, Grammy-branded special will tape in the Bronx on Aug. 11, the official 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop. CBS will broadcast the special later this year. So far, Questlove, who curated the Grammy tribute is involved, as well as Jesse Collins, an executive producer of the Grammys, Billboard reports.
The outlet also reports that the tribute has been in the works prior to the Grammys telecast, according to a source. LL COOL J, who helped host the Grammy tribute, alluded that more was on the way before the set kicked off, as did Henry Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy.
“For five decades, Hip Hop has not only been a defining force in music, but a major influence on our culture,” Mason said. “Its contributions to art, fashion, sport, politics, and society cannot be overstated. I’m so proud that we are honoring it in such a spectacular way on the Grammy stage. It is just the beginning of our year-long celebration of this essential genre of music.”
Though the names of Hip-Hop acts were prominently featured in the backdrop of the star-studded set, Questlove has also said that more is on the way. When asked about artists who were excluded from the Grammy Awards tribute, he answered that some acts were already booked, declined the offer, or will be included in the two-hour taping in August.
As of now, there's no word on who specifically will be included in the August taping.
