Jay-Z Greeting Rakim Backstage: "Look at the God!"

Jay-Z appeared to truly enjoy himself during the Grammy Hip-Hop 50th anniversary tribute. He could be seen smiling and cheering on his heroes and contemporaries during the historic event. Jay-Z is of course a fan of the music who has been an MC since the 80's and released records with The Jaz, Original Flavor and Big Daddy Kane in the early 90s. Jay also embraced the God MC Rakim backstage and repeatedly thanked him for the road he paved. "Look at the God, look at the God" he excitedly repeated.

Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5's performance of "Flash To The Beat" is of great significance because Flash played the original Vox manually operated drum machine that he incorporated into the group's earliest performances. Audio of that legendary routine has traveled the world via third and fourth-generation cassette tapes and a bootlegged Bronx River show pressed on vinyl.

LL COOL J and Ice T Hanging Out

LL Cool J and Ice T were once rivals in a war of words that lasted from Ice's 1986 single "Dog'n The Wax" until at least 1995 when LL dropped the remix for "I Shot Ya." To see them both as artists, actors, and entrepreneurs sharing the same space together decades later is a priceless full-circle moment.

Questlove's Drum Kit

Questlove, the co-curator and drummer for the Hip-Hop tribute has an image of the flyer for Kool Herc's legendary party which took place on August 11, 1973 on his drum kit. This party is credited with the birth of Hip Hop culture as Herc played breaks while B Boys danced.

Rakim's Maroon Gucci Air Force 1's

Rakim has been a fashion icon since he came in the door. The cover of Paid In Full and Follow The Leader feature Ra in custom leather wear and he showed up to the Grammy's in that same style — he rocked a maroon Gucci sweatsuit with matching Gucci Air Force 1's. This style is identical to none.
