Dave Chappelle and Black Star 'Drink Champs' Episode Finally Released

Drink Champs announced an upcoming episode with comedians Dave Chappelle, Donnell Rawlings, Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) and Talib Kweli of Black Star in May of this year. The episode, which was filmed in Ohio, was delayed because of the tragic back-to-back mass shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde.

The 42-minute episode has now been released and debuted on Saturday (9/10). The episode covered Black Star's journey and new album, their choice to release their project on Luminary and "backpack Hip-Hop." N.O.R.E. suggests the Roots' "What They Do" video was the starting point of the "backpack" era. While that may be true, Chappelle pointed out that, "Whoever got the most bitches wins. Gangster n-ggas had more bitches. I love the video and it was clever but there were more bitches at the Biggie show."

The comment section on the episode suggests that many viewers felt that 42 minutes wasn't sufficient for such iconic guests (many Drink Champs episodes run three hours or more).

In a recent interview with HipHopDX, co-host DJ EFN explained that the episode would return soon, and was removed due to miscommunication.

"There was some miscommunication, but we got on the phone with Dave and his team and agreed to properly release through our regular release schedule and partners", the co-host revealed. "All is well and hopefully more of what was filmed will make the official release. It's important to Dave and Drink Champs that people see the episode in the right light."
