Talib Kweli Blasts MF DOOM'S Former Business Partner

Talib Kweli Levels Serious Allegations at MF DOOM'S Former Business Partner

Talib Kweli posted some serious allegations against former MF DOOM business partner Eothen "Egon" Alapatt on Wednesday (8/31) on IG. Kweli accused the Now Again Records founder of being a culture vulture who boasts about taking advantage of Black recording artists.

He shared a screenshot of an email from Egon he wrote: "One day the hip hop community is going to have to discuss what a lying, stealing, conniving culture vulture Eothen Apalatt AKA Egon of Now Again Records is... This is a non Black person who routinely takes advantage of Black artists and brags about it."

Kweli also accused Apalatt of attempting to take advantage of "Ma Dukes," the mother of revered producer J Dilla, and attempting to block the release of Black Star's album, No Fear of Time.

Talib described Egon as an opportunist who had preyed on Black musicians. "We need to discuss how he uses the money he steals from iconic hip hop artists to buy up catalogs of unsuspecting older Black artists and then hordes the music so that he can decide what gets sampled and what doesn’t depending on how much money he personally makes off of music he doesn’t create," he said. "He plays no instruments, writes no rhymes, sings no songs and makes no beats, but he brags to me about how he has a 3 million dollar house with money stashed in the walls during negotiations for the artists he used to work with."

One of Kweli's more serious charges is that Egon stole the late MF DOOM's rhyme book. "But today all I want to know is why Egon stole MF DOOM rhyme book and refuses to give it back to DOOM family, even after DOOM passed away," he wrote. "MF DOOM officiated this man's wedding FOR FREE, but then later stopped rocking with him because of his devil ways ...The era of the culture vulture is OVER.”
