Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine have teamed up to bring the lovine and Young Center, which is designed to combine a rigorous interdisciplinary curriculum with real-world opportunities, to Fredrick Douglass High School in Atlanta.
“We believe we’re going to give these kids an advantage, a different type of education,” Iovine said at the press event, as spotted by Hip-Hop Wired. “So, you all can sell these kids, go out there and say you want these kids. Because the modern job needs these kids. That’s why.”
Specifically, The Iovine and Young Center will "provide real-life opportunities for students to challenge themselves and develop new skills," Black Enterprise reports. The center will also incorporate an interdisciplinary curriculum built to grow students’ professional and personal development. Fredrick Douglas has a string of famous alumni, including ormer mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Killer Mike, T.I., Kilo Ali, and Lil Jon.
In 2022, Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine established a comparable magnet program at Compton High School in Los Angeles, with Dre personally contributed $10 million towards the $200 million campus makeover.
"Dre and I always think big," Iovine said. "We hope that everyone will embrace this way of learning. Just like we never imagined the whole world wearing our headphones, but they did."
