On the latest episode of DJ Premier's So Wassup, he breaks down the making of "The Militia" from Gang Starr's fifth album, Moment of Truth. The classic posse cut features Freddie Foxxx, Big Shug, and Guru. Preemo explains that a chance meeting with Foxxx in Manhattan led to his inclusion on the track.

"Me and Guru were making some moves heading to a meeting, and we saw him hangin' out on the humble," he explained. "When we saw him, he saluted us and told us if we ever wanted to work on somethin' he was down. Premier explains that after Shug laid his one take verse Freddie came into the booth and warned that he would record with his twin glocks out. "He does his verse with the [glocks] out in one take, and says that he has to go to a meeting," he remembered.

Premier explained that the concept for the Jeffrey Byrd directed video was that a female assassination squad was hired to take out Preemo and the other members of the militia. "The ill part about the video is that everyone is getting attacked to be assassinated, but no one got destroyed. The end of the video shows how everyone was prevented from getting destroyed."

Moment of Truth is Gang Starr's first gold album, and Premier explained the significance of the accomplishment. "That's one of the proudest moments of our career, getting that plaque," he said. "Guru was always complaining year after year and album after album that we should have been gold. I told him that one day we were gonna get it, and [Moment of Truth] was the one.
