After several outlets picked up the story based on his tweet that he pays singer/songwriter Sting $5K per day for the use of The Police’s classic hit “Every Breath You Take" for his 1997 ode to Biggie, “I’ll Be Missing You,” Diddy has clarified that he was only joking.

“I want y’all to understand I was joking,” he tweeted on Friday (April 7). “It’s called being Facetious! Me and @OfficialSting have been friends for a long time! He never charged me $3K or $5K a day for Missing You. He probably makes more than $5K a day from one of the biggest songs in history.”

I’ll Be Missing You,” a collaboration with Faith Evans and featuring 112 which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed atop the chart for 11 weeks. The rumor came up again following a resurfaced clip of Sting’s March 2018 interview on The Breakfast Club where the iconic singer/songwriter seemed to confirm he gets a daily check from Diddy for the song.

“Yeah, for the rest of his life,” Sting said before explaining to Charlamagne that Diddy asked for permission after “I’ll Be Missing You” was already released. However, he said that he and Diddy were “very good friends now.” He also added, “It was a beautiful version of that song.”

Following a wave of outlets picking up the story, Diddy hopped on social media to clarify that he was just joking about the $5K a day. In other rumored Diddy news, we're probably about to see a lot more of him due to his new reality series on Hulu, which will reportedly feature his family. Diddy, who has seven children, has already been spotted filming the show in locations such as Los Angeles and Miami, according to sources, Page Six reports. He also filed to have “Diddy + 7” trademarked, according to JasmineBrand.
