Danté Ross to Release Memoir 'Son of the City'

Danteé Ross is releasing his memoir, Son of the City, later this year. He made the announcement on IG on Wednesday (3/1).

"So it's finally a reality. Worked on this for a long time," he posted. "Started it with my dad in 2009, it was originally going to be a mutual bio of sorts, father and son style. His cancer returned and we had to put it down, bigger things were at hand. He would pass in 2011 and I left it alone for 5 years. It was too heavy for me."

Dante revealed that he returned to the project after advice from one of his father's friends, did a few rewrites, hired an agent, and secured a publisher. "Like magic, I have an actual book I wrote dropping on May 24th," he said.

Ross started the music business when Tommy Boy President Monica Lynch hired him to A&R De La Soul's debut 3 Feet High And Rising. As a producer and engineer, he has worked with Brand Nubian, 3rd Bass, Korn, and others. Complex recognized him as one of the top 25 A&R representatives in Hip-Hop.

According to Barnes & Noble, " Ross pulls no punches as he details his time growing up on the pre-gentrification Lower East Side as the child of political activists, his devotion to punk rock, and his eventual discovery of a brand new art form. Ross earned a Grammy in 1998 for his production work on Carlos Santana’s Supernatural. Ross’ production work has also appeared on Eminem’s 8 Mile soundtrack, where he produced and co-wrote two songs that featured Macy Grey and Young Z. Ross has worked with artists as diverse as Korn, Incubus, Mobb Deep, Ice Cube, ODB, as well as a plethora of others."
