CL Smooth appeared as the guest on a recent episode of Drink Champs with NORE and DJ EFN where he weighed in on his relationship with his former DJ and producer Pete Rock. When asked if they could straighten out their differences and work together again, he replied, "I think we could, if we keep it business. We don't have to have feelings anymore, just the feeling of wanting to win."

CL went further to explain the problem that tore the duo apart some time after their second album, The Main Ingredient. "If it works, it works and that should be easy," he says. "But also we were very young men, and we came in this game together.

When we came up together, maybe other business pulled him in other directions, and pulled me in other directions. One point that I can pick out is, he can be paid to stay home, I cant. I gotta go on the road and get this money. If my producer is producing other artists, while my shit is working, then I'm competing against me., and [he] is helping. I want him to have everything he has, this is his moment, I have to go find my moment."
