In an example of a sample which went under the radar in the days before the internet, but caught the attention of the original rights holder after it was recently resampled, Barry White's estate is suing Rodney O and Joe Cooley for their 1987 hit, "Everlasting Bass".

Metro Boomin' sampled "Everlasting Bass" which uses an interpolation of Barry White's 1973 classic, "I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little More Baby" for "Like That". Released back in March, "Like That" (which features Kendrick Lamar) was one of the early shots thrown in the now legendary beef between Drake and Lamar.

Lawyers representing the Barry White estate said that they are launching the suit almost four decades after the fact because "Everlasting Bass" was "released prior to the internet and not widely distributed, leaving the estate unaware of the song when it was first released," according to Billboard. The White estate isn't pursuing Metro Boomin', because "Rodney O & Joey Cooley agreed to defend [them] against such accusations when they cleared the sample". Metro Boomin' credited Rodney O & Joe Cooley on "Like That".
