In 1993, Pac released "Keep Ya Head Up" sampling The five Stairsteps’ 1970 “O-o-h Child,” as the third single from his platinum-selling sophomore album with Interscope records, Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z. Written by Pac, Daryl Anderson, Stan Vincent, and Roger Troutman, the track implored the “real men” to get up, stating it was “time to heal our women, be real to our women, and if we don't we'll have a race of babies that will hate the ladies, that make the babies.”
The Zapp-sampling hit would reach the Billboard Top 20, helping to cement Pac as a star. And he opened the song, a tribute to the struggles of Black women, with words for Salt's daughter.
