Xzibit: 'I'm Sick Of Hip-Hop, It's Lost Its Staying Power'

Xzibit has been no stranger in voicing his displeasure with the state of current Hip-Hop lately, and he expressed it yet again on a recent episode of the Adam Carolla Show. The former Pimp My Ride host expressed frustration with the music as well as the lack of physical product which added to the listening experience.

“There’s no emotional investment in the music, like when we were putting music out,” he said. “You had the CD cover, the album cover, cassette. You get to open it, you get to see who produced it, you get to read the lyrics. You’re not guessing. A lot of the things that made us have 10, 15, 20, 30-year-long careers doesn’t exist anymore.”

X said further that other genres incorporate elements of Hip-Hop to better effect than Hip-Hop does. "I don’t know if they’re doing it on purpose or not, but Hip-Hop doesn’t have the staying power that it used to have,” he said. “You see country music having elements of Hip-Hop. You see pop music. When’s the last time you saw a rock band that didn’t have a Hip Hop element to it? I’m sick of Hip-Hop, and I love Hip Hop,” he expressed. “I want to see a rock band come out and steamroll.”

In other Xzibit news, the "Paparazzi" MC announced last year that he was working on a project [his last album was released in 2012] that will likely be his last. “I have an album called Kingmaker that I’m putting the finishing touches on now,” he said. “I’ve been working on it for a minute. I feel like this is gonna be my last album. Not that I’m gonna retire or make any weird statements like that, but as I think about full feature-length albums I think things have changed and people digest music a little differently now."

X has also launched a new weekly podcast called Lasagna Ganja, Deadline reports. The weekly podcast will delve into the world of cannabis, with Xzibit co-hosting alongside weekly cannabis advocate Tammy The Cannabis Cutie. Per Deadline, the series, which will feature reviews of selected products, will also "delve into all the layers of the multifaceted cannabis world, from the complicated history and misconceptions of cannabis and the plant’s influence and impact on culture, music, entertainment and more, to the latest trends, scientific breakthroughs, and political issues."
