I once met a hooker, she did it for free on the Foothill bus number forty-three, all the way in the back she was workin' me had my big beatbox and I was jammin' the beat."

"Foothill Bus number 43."

It's mentioned on Too $hort's 1987 classic "Freaky Tales" as the location where the legendary Oakland rapper "got busy." Before the line was discontinued, it would take the "Blow The Whistle" rapper to Fremont High School down Foothill Boulevard. In a full circle moment, a three-block stretch of Foothill could possibly be renamed "Too $hort Way" soon.

The street renaming is up for consideration on December 6 by the Oakland City Council. Mayor Libby Schaaf and Councilman Noel Gallo requested the commemorative renaming. "Too $hort Way" will span Foothill from 47th Avenue to High Street if it's approved; running alongside several street-art murals, including one of another Bay Area rap pioneer, the late Mac Dre, the Fremont High campus and a community swimming pool.

"Freaky Tales" has also inspired a movie, Deadline reported last week. Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden-directed the film which features an all-star cast including Pedro Pascal, Ben Mendelsohn and Jay Ellis. The film is set in $hort Dog's Oakland hometown in 1987. Described as an “immersive” film, Freaky Tales is inspired by Fleck’s experience growing up in the Bay Area, comprised of four interconnected stories—each featuring distinct characters, real life locations and “noteworthy historical events.”

“I suspect that there will be more to come," said James MacIlvaine of the Oakland Film Office. “It seems like the entire film is being filmed here in Oakland, which is very exciting. Oakland’s vibrancy with these national large scale projects is very exciting. And very good for the local workers that are grips, electricians, sound camera operators, location team, and everything else that goes with a film shoot.”
