The Game's forthcoming release, Drillmatic, is on indefinite hold right now but the Compton rapper said things are moving forward with the project when he went on Instagram Stories yesterday (July 5) to tell everyone that Jay-Z cleared seven samples for the album. He says he's still waiting on three more sample clearances until the album is complete.

“S/O to S. Dot for clearing all 7 samples on #Drillmatic,” he wrote. “3 more sample clearances & the AOTY belongs to me & hit-boy.”

Drillmatic, which is produced by Hit-Boy, was supposed to arrive on June 17 and then it got pushed back to July 1, before it was delayed once more. Back in late June, The Game dropped "Violence," a mid-tempo track that samples Jeezy's 2005 hit, "Go Crazy" featuring Jay-Z.

At the top of the year, Game compared his connection with Hit-Boy to a few other famous producer-rapper combos, like Jay-Z and Just Blaze and DMX and Swizz Beats. Hit-Boy has already seemingly found a recent muse in Nas, who has dropped what's probably been the most consistent, work of his career over the past couple of years after teaming with the producer — King's Disease (2020), King's Disease II (2021) and Magic (2021).

As of now, there's no firm date for Drillmatic's arrival.
