Snoop Dogg’s Death Row acquisition has been a roller coaster ride. From questions about what was actually acquired, to missing Death Row music on Digital Service Providers, there has been confusion since day one.

Most recently Snoop Dogg spoke with Elliott Wilson, Tidal’s Chief Content Officer and stated: “To be in control of the brand means that I got all the pieces that I need to do what I got to do, from the masters to the publishing to the IP, the label and the logo. I got everything.” He continued: “I got The Chronic album, I got Doggystyle, Tha Doggfather, Murder Was The Case, Dogg Food and Above The Rim.” Not long after Snoop’s declaration, Dr. Dre’s Lawyer released a statement through Rolling Stone that Dre still owned 100 percent of The Chronic

Yesterday, Snoop Dogg announced via his social media: “The Chronic is bac” (the bac spelling references the title of his latest album BODR - Bac On Death Row). The announcement was accompanied by a picture of Snoop and Dr. Dre in the studio. When The Chronic was missing from streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music, users guessed that Snoop was making good on his promise to turn Death Row into an NFT label and the “first major label in the metaverse,” or that the music was in limbo while the transitions took place. Snoop’s cryptic message adds another layer to the Death Row conversation.
