Snoop Dogg, Teddy Riley, and Sade have another major feat to be added to their long list of accomplishments —the legendary artists are being inducted into the 2023 Songwriters Hall of Fame. The announcement for this year's inductees came today (Jan. 18), while the initial nominations were announced over the summer.
Sade is being recognized for her work as part of the group Sade including the songs “Smooth Operator,” “No Ordinary Love,” “The Sweetest Taboo,” “By Your Side,” “Is It A Crime." Snoop's recognition comes via the tracks “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” “Nuthin’ But A “G” Thang,” “Young, Wild & Free,” “Gin & Juice,” and “The Next Episode.” And Teddy's recognition is from his work with his groups Guy (“I Like”) and Blackstreet as well as his work with Bobby Brown (“My Prerogative”), Keith Sweat (“Make It Last Forever,” “I Want Her”), and Johnny Kemp (“Just Got Paid”).
“The music industry does not exist without songwriters delivering great songs first. Without them there is no recorded music, no concert business, no merch . . . nothing, it all starts with the song and the songwriter,” SHOF Chairman and iconic musician Nile Rodgers in a statement. “We are therefore very proud that we are continually recognizing some of the culturally most important songwriters of all time and that the 2023 slate represents not just iconic songs but also diversity and unity across genres, ethnicity and gender, songwriters who have enriched our lives and, in their time, literally transformed music and the lives of billions of listeners all over the world.”
The event will take place on Thursday, June 15 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.
