On Saturday June 11th Shaquille O’Neal will play the Governors Ball. Also headlining by Halsey. Denzel Curry, Almost Monday, Tove Lo, Roddy Ricch and a host of others have been announced; the Governors Ball is a celebration of music, art, food and community. According to the official website for the Governors Ball, it was built by New Yorkers and there is no other festival like it. The cities best eats are highlighted displaying incredible culinary diversity. Visual artists from NYC and around the world will display murals, statues and high-flying inflatables. There will be 4 stages and over 70 musical acts over 3 days.

Shaquille O’Neal is the face of so many commercials and other endorsements, that a generation may not fully know his greatness as an athlete and many may not know at all that M.C. and recording artist are among the many hats worn by Shaq. From 1993 until 1998, Shaq released 4 full length studio albums – 2 on Jive Records and 2 on his own T.W.IsM. (The World is Mine) imprint. Shaq has worked with Method Man, RZA, Michael Jackson, Jay-Z , The Notorious B.I.G. and the Fu-Schnickens.

In a 2011 ESPN interview Shaq spoke about what it was like working with Biggie on “You Can’t Stop The Reign.”

“The first time that I heard Biggie he said my name in a rhyme – 'Slammin brothers like Shaquille O’Neal, shit is real.' I instantly became a fan and my concept was always to rap with my favorite rappers. We went to the studio and B.I.G. was done in 5 minutes. The record was a hit because he is on it, he was the greatest.”

The Governors Ball takes place from June 10-12 at Citi Field in Queens, New York.
