Legendary DJ and producer Clark Kent and Serato have released a special episode of their podcast series Serato Unscripted in celebration of Hip-Hop's 50th anniversary.

In the series, Kent reflects on the legendary DJs who have impacted his career and the power of Black creativity. Kent, who has played an integral role in the careers of The Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Lil Kim, cites DJs Larry Levan, Kool DJ Red Alert, and Brooklyn's Grandmaster Flowers as influences.

“The first pivotal moment [of my career] is the day I met Grandmaster Flowers and he let me DJ in Lincoln Terrace Park for what should have been two records," he says. "He let me play about 30 records, and that night I went home to my grandmother and I said, ‘I'm gonna be a DJ for the rest of my life.' I love Kool DJ Red Alert for being like, one of the only people who can challenge me in a club. The only other guy I probably ever felt challenged in a club with is Louie Vega. Vega is literally the house version of me in the club.”

Kent spoke of his work with Jay-Z and The late Notorious B.I.G. on the Brooklyn duo's only collaboration "Brooklyn's Finest.

“Ohio Players ‘Ecstasy’ to me is the best record I've ever heard," he explains. "It doesn't have verses. It doesn't have hooks. It doesn't have bridges. It just has feeling. And every time I listen to it, it's the same. It's just like, God, listen to the feeling. I played it as the last record at every party. And you know, when you got your crew - [Jay-Z] and [Dame Dash], [Biggie Smalls] - every night they hear this song it becomes the crew's favorite record.”
