On Dec. 19, 2000, Snoop Dogg delivered what would be his final album on No Limit Records, Tha Last Meal.

A quiet standout in Snoop's lengthy discography, The Last Meal was also the last album that was partly owned by Death Row Records. The album arrived a year after Snoop's heavy showing on Dr. Dre's masterpiece, 2001, and many of the producers show up on this project, including Dre himself as well as Scott Storch.

Legendary producer Battlecat shows up on the album standout, "Stacey Adams" featuring slick vocals from Kokane, while longtime E-40 collaborator, Studio Ton makes an appearance on "Game Court (skit)." Of course, the defining track is the classic "Lay Low" produced by Dr. Dre and Mike Elizondo with features from Master P, Butch Cassidy, the Eastsidaz, and vocals from Nate Dogg. Other standouts include the posse track "Set It Off" produced by Timbaland and featuring MC Ren, The Lady of Rage, Ice Cube, Nate Dogg, and Kurupt.

The project peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200 and was Snoop's fifth consecutive top-ten album in the United States. While the album brought his deal with No Limit to a close following his departure from Death Row, Snoop and Master P's business relationship remains strong, more than 20 years later (Master P heads up Snoop's Broadus Foods empire).

"Master P saved my life," he said in a 2020 interview, recalling a few times P gave him great advice after things had gone sour with Death Row.

A strong entry in his massive catalog, Tha Last Meal is just another example of Snoop's staying power.
