On February 25, 1998, The Wu-Tang Clan's Ol' Dirty Bastard made Grammy history.

As singer Shawn Colvin approached the podium to retrieve her award for Song of the Year, Dirty interrupted seemingly out of nowhere with an unplanned nonlinear rant that has become a permanent part of both popular and Hip-Hop culture.

"Calm down, please calm down, the music and everything," ODB said from the opposite side of the stage. "I went and bought me a outfit today that costed a lot of money today, nahmean 'cus I thought Wu-Tang was gonna win," he continued.

Decked out in a suit with a creme scarf and maroon overcoat, he uttered the words that forever become synonymous with the Wu. "I don't know how y'all see it, but when it comes to the children: Wu-Tang is for the children. We teach the children know what I mean? Puffy is good but Wu-Tang is the best."

A stunned and quiet audience looked on as Dirty was escorted offstage, but not before he delivered the parting words: "I want y'all to know that this is ODB and I love you all, peace."

Ol' Dirty Bastard was a guest the next day on The Howard Stern Show.

"We were nominated for Rap Album of the Year" and we lost to Puffy," he explained to Stern. "It was no disrespect to Puffy. It just happened all of a sudden, it was there. Puffy got it goin' on. Anybody who sells records doin' what they're supposed to do as far as entertainment that's beautiful."

Encouraged by Stern, Dirty went on to explain that he felt that the nontelevised category for disrespectful to rap. He also explained that he felt like he shouldn't have rushed the stage, but "<y legs kept movin'. You know how you see a beautiful woman and your legs keep movin' and you got a big don't walk sign in your face?"

ODB revealed that he was approached by Puffy's security after the incident. "Puffy's bodyguard's approached me like the mafia," the "Brooklyn Zoo" MC explained. "I got love for Puffy I didn't think that they would take it that way and approach me."
