Questlove Responds to Future Being Crowned "Best Rapper Alive" by GQ

The latest issue of GQ has caused quite a star. Trap superstar Future is on the cover, which declares the Atlanta artist "Best Rapper Alive." That tagline has been getting picked apart ever since the digital cover hit the web, and Roots drummer Questlove chimed in to give his take. Well—he subtly acknowledged how he felt about the declaration.

When one of Questo's followers asked what "." meant, ("Is that a good or bad '.'?"), he shared a link to his Roots bandmate Black Thought delivering his famous freestyle for Funkmaster Flex back in 2017.

Fans and commentators have been discussing the idea of Future as "The Best Rapper Alive" for days now.

The GQ piece was written by famed music journalist Elliott Wilson. In the story, he explains why he believes Future is now the standard. The headline was especially surprising for many because of Future's relative low output as of late. He hasn't released an album in two years.

"That’s because I’m happy,” Future says about his hiatus. “I’m genuinely happy with life. And there was a time where I was only happy when I was on the stage, and in the studio. Like it was my escape.”

Meanwhile Questlove is still basking in the success of winning an Oscar and a Grammy this year for his documentary, Summer of Soul(…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised).
