Pete Rock appeared as a recent guest on Sway's Universe, where he responded to a recent offer from his ex partner, CL Smooth to make music again. "I just think he's best on his own," Pete explained. "Simple as that, I think he's good by himself. There's a million producers that'll do something with him, I'm good."

Pete's response was a reply to CL's recent appearance on Drink Champs, where he offered to work with Pete on another project for the sake of the duo's loyal fan base. "I'm not asking [him] to be my brother no more, I'm just sayin' lets work. I understand now, the fans gave us a lot. We owe them. They bought a couple of houses and cars for us, and gave us a few budgets. Why cant we just give them something back?"

Concerning their break up, CL said, "When we came up together, maybe other business pulled him in other directions, and pulled me in other directions. One point that I can pick out is, he can be paid to stay home, I cant. I gotta go on the road and get this money. If my producer is producing other artists, while my shit is working, then I'm competing against me, and [he] is helping. I want him to have everything he has, this is his moment, I have to go find my moment."
